The gold-painting workshop held by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) will introduce the craftsmanship of gold-plating on woodwork.
China's traditional gold-plating process has a long history. It was mainly used in the decoration of the emperor's palace and slowly developed into temples and Buddha statues. Later, it is more widely used in public plaques, sculptures, and even daily necessities such as tea sets. The lacquer coloring and the gold-plating process complement each other, and the layout and layers formed can make the woodwork more gorgeous.
In the workshop, the surveyors and the master craftsman will teach you all the craftsmanship about historical building. Through personal experiences, you would learn to appreciate the traditional architectural craftsmanship and know the difficulty of maintaining the originality of antiquities.
