"Maintenance and Appreciation of Historical Buildings" Creativity Competition

Competition Background

The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) will launch a series of Public Engagement Events in 2019-20 to promote Built Heritage Conservation of Hong Kong with a grant from Built Heritage Conservation Fund (BHCF) under Development Bureau. "Maintenance and Appreciation of Historical Buildings" Creativity Competition, one of the events in the programme, aims at encouraging the public to explore, maintain and appreciate the historic buildings in Hong Kong and demonstrate their creativity to reveal the beauty and cultural value of them.

 

Competition Objective

  • Encourage the public to explore and appreciate the rich history, cultural traditions and conservation of historic buildings in Hong Kong.
  • Arouse public attention to heritage conservation and maintenance
  • Educate the public about the importance of historic buildings timely maintenance in Hong Kong
 

Category

  • Student category:
    • All students from primary and secondary schools in the academic year 2019/20
    • Entries are welcomed on either individual basis or via school/organisation application
      *For school/organisation application, both the participants and their schools/organisations will receive Certificates of Participation upon completion of the Competition.
    • Numbers of entries via school/organisation application are not limited
    • Entries can only be submitted by individual and one participant can only submit one entry
    • There is no admission charge to enter the competition
  • Public category:
    • No Age Limitation
    • Entries can be submitted by individual or a group of a maximum of 6 participants
    • One participant or group can only submit one entry
    • There is no admission charge to enter the competition
 

Entry Submission

Each entrant is required to submit the following materials from 24 August to 3 September 2020 by 6pm to:

(1) Project Description of a maximum of 300 words (in Chinese or English) to illustrate how the design concept demonstrates the importance of timely maintenance, and appreciation of historical buildings.

(2) Competition entry

To encourage creativity and innovative thinking, there are three categories on the formats of the competition entry. They include:

Remarks:

Contestant can enter the competition in either one or two categories.

All entries can be submitted in person or by post. Please make sure all entries are well-packed.

The HKIS shall not be held responsible for any competition entries that are damaged or lost in transit.
