Maintenance and Appreciation of Historical Buildings Launching Ceremony

The HKIS "Maintenance and Appreciation of Historical Buildings" Forum: Current Practices and Challenges in Built Heritage Conservation

Conservation of historic buildings held under private ownership is not compulsory under current legal framework. However, even owners are willing to conserve and restore their properties, and if possible, revitalise them into cultural landmarks voluntarily, many technical challenges arising from the conservation project often hold them back.

Second Round Public Guided Tour

At the beginning of March, the first round guided tour was overwhelming. Following the success of the last event, the HKIS held the second round guided tour in Wan Chai district. It was supported by Friends of Heritage (FoH) and the public. The surveyors led the tours to appreciate the historic buildings of the district and learn the importance of the maintenance of the buildings.

Maintenance and Appreciation of Historical Buildings Launching Ceremony

The launching ceremony of the "Maintenance and Appreciation of Historical Buildings" has invited Sr Dr Tony Leung Ka-tung, President of Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Sr Vincent Ho, the Convenor of HKIS Heritage Preservation Working Group, JP, Mr Hon Tony TSE Wai-chuen, BBS, the Legislative Council Member (Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape), Mr Victor So Hing-woh, the Chairman of Urban Renewal Authority, Mr José Yam, the Commissioner for Heritage of the Development Bureau, and Mr Douglas So, the Chairman of Antiquities Advisory Board to attend. A series of activities is unveiled to conserve historical buildings.

First Round Public Guided Tour

The first round guided tour received enthusiastic support by over a hundred Friends of Heritage (FoH) and the public. They visited the heritage buildings in Wan Chai District with the guide of the surveyors, learning about the importance of heritage building maintenance and knowledge to appreciate their values.
